2005 Pinot Noir 'Gary and Christine'

Named for winemaker Gary Andrus and his wife Christine, Gary & Christine's Vineyard is home not only to their winery but to their family as well.  It is planted meter by meter to Laurelwood soils, a combination of sedimentary and volcanic earth, and is sustainably farmed with controlled yields.  This wine is unfined and unfiltered.

"Robert Parker initally gave the wine 88 points and added that '"f time brings this wine into balance, then my scores may well appear stingy". That was in September '07 and we believe that is exactly what has happened. While this wine certainly will improve with further cellaring, it is starting to show very well, indeed and seems to warrant a score in the 90s for sure.

2005 Abeja Cabernet Sauvignon

Crafting a Cabernet with dark dense color, richness and complexity, and a bright fruitful nose is one thing. Combining that with elegance, finesse, and superb balance is quite another.

In 2005, the growing season gave Abeja every opportunity to accomplish both, and this Cabernet is a beautiful illustration of an exceptional vintage. It is absolutely complete, abundant, and balanced. Their own Heather Hill Vineyard fruit is blended with Bacchus, Dionysus, Wallula, Weinbau and a touch of Hedges Red Mountain.

This wine has pretty aromas of ripe cherry, black briar berry, and a hint of fresh fig. Its sleek structure frames a layer of sweet cassis, mountain strawberry, and shaved chocolate. Wood spice and lustrous tannins are in perfect balance and lead to a magnificent finish.

Exceedingly rare, this is one of the hardest-to-find wines in Washington.

A classic in the making?

Winemakers are very excited.

While 2005 had some challenges, it will certainly be regarded as a very good vintage and one with the structure to give it exceptional aging potential. But all around the Northwest, winemakers' faces really light up when they start talking about 2006. It looks like we have another stellar year coming up and the whole wine world seems to be buzzing with excitement.
