Rather than devalue their brand by
lowering the prices of their main wines, some producers opt to create
new cuvées or even second labels at a much lower price point. In some
cases, the wines are pretty much the same as in their pricy labels.
Another common instance for the 2009 vintage is that labels that are
usually made from purchased fruit are made from estate fruit because
there was so much of it.
So, without further ado, we present a very special 4 -pack of some of the most famous labels out there:
- Ken
Wright Cellars - Pinot Noir "Willamette Valley". To our knowledge, Ken
Wright hasn't done a pinot blend since the early nineties. It's the
same exact fruit that's in his $50 bottles, just blended together to
make an early-drinking, luscious wine. ($25.95)
- Les
Cousins - Pinot Noir. You can probably guess what the little BF on the
label stands for: Yep, Beaux Freres. And it's estate fruit! (Sorry,
not available separately)
- Penner-Ash
- Pinot Noir "Oregon". All the fruit in this is actually from the
Willamette Valley, but they decided to call it "Oregon" so as not to
confuse it with their $50 regular "Willamette Valley" release. (Sorry,
we cannot sell this wine separately over the internet. Email us for more info.)
Evening
Land Vineyards - Pinot Noir "Eola-Amity Hills". Usually, this wine is
made with purchased fruit, but not in 2009. It's 100% Seven Springs
Estate fruit! And that usually runs in the mid $40s. ($23.95)
